The Event
Champaign West Rotary (CWR) is producing a contest (“Contest”) in the form of a talent show known as CU’s Got Talent. This fifth-year talent competition doubles as a fundraiser in support of local charities in Champaign County. CWR is looking for ten persons or groups of persons (“Contestants”) to perform before a crowd of approximately 250 people on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at The Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois. The general public will select the winner of the contest by voting for his/her favorite performer. Votes are cast by donating money to the cause. Each dollar donated equates to one vote. Net proceeds raised during CU’s Got Talent will be donated to local 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations selected by Champaign West Rotary, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which supports charitable efforts in Champaign County.

Persons under the age of 18 must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian. Contestants may not submit more than one entry. First Place winners of past CU’s Got Talent contests are not eligible to compete again.

Register to Audition

  1. Read the Official Rules. Submission of an audition registration entry for this Contest confirms your agreement with these Official Rules.​
  2. Complete and submit your online audition registration entry by noon on Monday, November 11th to   
  3. Auditions are limited to the first 100 registered contestants.
  4. Contestants must show proof of identification at the time of audition.
  5. Contestants under the age of 18 must submit parent/guardian consent form at the time of audition.
  6. All performers are limited to a 3-minute audition.
  7. Performers will have access to a microphone; sound equipment will be available for playback of a music via CD, iPhone or computer.
  8. By submitting the online audition registration entry, Contestants consent to being contacted by CWR to confirm audition time and other related Contest topics and to CWR’s use of the information contained in your audition entry materials.

Types of Entries Accepted
CU’s Got Talent is looking for individuals who sing, dance, juggle, play a musical instrument(s), perform magic, perform a soliloquy, perform a comedy routine (rated PG-13 or under), or display any performable talents as long as it is not otherwise prohibited by law or these Official Rules. The period allotted for each performer is up to and no more than 4 minutes. The following are prohibited and will not be considered: dangerous stunts; performances containing profane, obscene, or sexual content; acts with more than 8 persons, or any act involving animals. Champaign West Rotary reserves the right to reject any entry that, in CWR’s sole discretion, it deems inconsistent with these Official Rules, or having the potential to be harmful to the success and/or reputation of CWR or its mission. If selected, registrant(s) will be required to perform at The Virginia Threatre in Champaign, Illinois, on February 1, 2020.

Contest Entry Period
All entries must be submitted online at before November 12, 2018. Released Parties (as defined below) are not responsible for any lost, stolen, illegible, damaged, delayed, misdirected or undelivered entries or any entries not received by the entry deadline, for whatever reason. CWR reserves the right to (i) suspended, modify, or cancel this Contest, or any contestant‘s participation in this Contest, at any time in its sole discretion; and (ii) modify these Official Rules in any way, at any time, by providing notice of such modification on

Finalist Selection
Judges will evaluate performers at the audition using a point system and the following criteria:

  1. Ability, technique and execution
  2. Entertainment value and audience appeal
  3. Stage presence
  4. Audience response

Ten performers and two alternates will be selected to perform live at CU’s Got Talent on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at The Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois. Should a performer be able to participate on February 1, 2020, the first alternate will be moved into the competition. Performers will also be required to attend a rehearsal scheduled for a date/time prior to the event on February 1, 2020.  Decisions made by the judging panel are final and binding.

Talent Selection Notification
Auditions: Finalists and alternates will be contacted by a member of CWR and these persons or groups of persons will be posted online at on or before November 22, 2019.

Winner of CU’s Got Talent: The first place winner and two runners up will be selected and announced live at the conclusion of CU’s Got Talent on Saturday, February 1, 2020. The first place winner and runners up will be posted online at following the event.

Contest Restrictions
By participating in this Contest, you hereby agree to release and hold the beneficiary organization, CWR and all of their respective officers, directors, members, and volunteers, (collectively “Released Parties”) harmless from any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs and expenses, including attorneys’ fees and costs, arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from your participation in the Contest or any Contest-related activity. You further agree to indemnify, defend, and hold Released Parties harmless from and against any third party claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs and expenses, including attorneys’ fees and costs, arising from or relating to this Contest or any Released Party’s use of the performances in accordance with the rights granted herein. Released Parties shall not be responsible for any malfunction, failure or delay of any telephone or other communications network or computer system, equipment, software or program, or any combination thereof, including any injury to you or damage to your or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from downloading or other activity in connection with your participation in this Contest or for any other errors or problems of any kind, whether computer, network, technical, mechanical, typographical, printing, human or otherwise, relating to or in connection with this Contest, including, without limitation, any errors or problems with may occur in connection with the administration of the Contest, the processing or judging of entries, the announcement of the winners or in any Contest-related materials.

Performance Release
If you are selected as a finalist or alternate, you hereby grant to CWR, the absolute right and permission to use in perpetuity your name, likeness, and photographs and video recordings of you and your performance made at the talent show, for the purpose of promoting CWR and future CU’s Got Talent contests.

These Official Rules shall be interpreted in accordance with Illinois law. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Champaign County, Illinois shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from or relating to these Official Rules, this Contest, or your participation in this Contest. You agree that the goodwill and charitable mission of the Contest constitutes sufficient and adequate consideration for all of your agreements set forth herein.
